There’s so much AI news to cover, I figured I would send out a weekly missive outlining some of the stories I found interesting. So here goes:

The Democratization of AI Threatens Tech Titans’ Control

A leaked Google memo titled “We have no moat” discusses the progress being made in artificial intelligence (AI) and challenges the assumption that a few big companies would control the technology.

AI became popular with the launch of Chatgpt, a chatbot powered by a large language model (LLM) created by OpenAI. Other tech companies, including Google, released their own LLM-powered chatbots. These systems can generate text and have realistic conversations because they are trained using vast amounts of data from the internet.

Some people were concerned that AI would be dominated by a few wealthy companies due to the high costs of training large LLMs. However, the rise of open-source AI is making it less likely that only a handful of firms will control the technology.
